CAITLIN MALY, a senior managing associate in the litigation group in Sidley’s Chicago office, focuses her practice on the defense of companies in class action, mass tort, toxic tort, products liability, and other complex litigation matters. She also has experience in government enforcement actions, internal investigations, and compliance counseling. In both state and federal trial and appellate courts, Caitlin has successfully defended companies in a wide array of industries, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, consumer products, energy, automotive, and higher education.
Caitlin has played key roles in the development of creative legal defense strategies. She has briefed and argued successful dispositive and discovery motions in both state and federal courts, and she has drafted successful appellate briefs and petitions. She offers experience in fact development and discovery, including drafting and responding to written discovery, taking and defending depositions, working with scientific and economic expert witnesses, and managing complex discovery. Caitlin has worked on winning trial teams that have successfully tried cases to verdict, and she has conducted direct and cross-examinations of witnesses at trial.
Caitlin received her J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School, where she served as an articles submission editor of the Minnesota Law Review. In addition, she was a member of the Minnesota Justice Foundation Student Board and the Asylum Law Project Student Board. Caitlin earned her B.A. in Legal Studies and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
