PETER EDGERTON focuses on advising a variety of businesses including insurance companies, private equity firms and others on federal and state tax issues in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other strategic transactions with a particular focus on the insurance and financial services industries. He seeks to locate and deliver added value through analysis of accounting, regulatory, tax, and private equity market practices. A sampling of his noteworthy representative matters include representing American National Insurance in its complex US$5.1 billion acquisition by Brookfield Asset Management Reinsurance Partners in early 2023, and serving as tax counsel to Athene Holding in its merger with Apollo Global Management. The all-stock transaction created a pro forma US$29 billion market cap company.

Prior to joining the firm, he served as a law clerk to Judge Pamela Ann Rymer of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Peter graduated from the University of Chicago Law School with honors and served as articles editor of The University of Chicago Law Review.
