Sidley is pleased to announce that Faith Chung, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), has been reappointed to the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Council for Diversity in the Educational Pipeline, effective August 2024, and selected as the 2024-2025 chair of the Communications and Recognition Committee.
The mission of the Council for Diversity in the Educational Pipeline is to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in the educational pipeline to the legal profession. The Council engages students from diverse backgrounds through various initiatives, including the Judicial Clerkship Program, Alexander Awards, Legal Opportunity Scholarship, Pipeline Diversity Directory, and Community College Pathway to Law Toolkit.
As chair of the Communications and Recognition Committee, Faith leads the Alexander Awards selection process and the Council’s communications strategies. The Alexander Awards honor individuals and organizations that demonstrate exemplary leadership in expanding opportunities for underrepresented students, including racial and ethnic minorities, students with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ students. The categories are:
Alexander Award – Recognizes individuals or organizations for leadership in expanding opportunities for underrepresented students into and through law school and into the legal profession.
Alexander Legal Ambassador Award – Recognizes a law firm or corporate legal department committed to increasing diversity in the legal profession through internal programs or meaningful support of other pipeline programs.
Alexander Rising Star Award – Given at the Council’s discretion to a promising small, or emerging, program that enhances diversity in the legal profession.
Faith Chung is a distinguished DEI professional and former practicing lawyer, known for leading diversity pipeline programs, mentoring and sponsorship efforts, coaching lawyers at various points in their careers from associate to partner, and developing metrics to measure DEI initiatives’ impact. She received her J.D. from Cornell Law School, where she also served as an editor on Cornell’s International Law Journal and as the Social Networking chair for the Real Estate Law Association. Faith received her B.A. from Bryn Mawr College, where she majored in sociology and graduated early magna cum laude.
