Sidley is pleased to announce its selection of three rising leaders to participate in the premier professional development programs of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD). As a law firm member of LCLD, which prepares future generations of diverse talent for the highest positions of leadership, Sidley is sponsoring partner Kenny S. Terrero as a 2023 LCLD Fellow and associates Karla Utset and Carmen Ortega-Rivero as 2023 LCLD Pathfinders.
Kenny S. Terrero is a partner in Sidley’s New York office and is a member of the Investment Funds practice. He has broad experience in corporate and compliance matters relating to corporate issuers, fintech companies, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and closed-end funds (CEFs). Kenny has significant experience representing issuers and underwriters in connection with fund structuring, initial public offerings, exchange listings, ongoing operations, and regulatory compliance. He is also experienced in a wide variety of SEC-registered and exempted capital markets transactions, security token offerings, and other securities law matters across a variety of sectors including transactions by real estate investment trusts (REITs), energy companies, fintech companies, and CEFs. Kenny advises on the structuring, formation, and operation of domestic and offshore private investment funds, including private equity and hedge funds in various asset classes, including digital assets and ecosystem funds. Lawyers selected for the flagship LCLD Fellows program demonstrate leadership skills, impact in their organization, engagement within the community, and commitment to diversity and inclusion. Throughout his Fellows year, Kenny will receive professional and personal development opportunities, leadership training, and relationship-building opportunities, including access to LCLD members and alumni.
Karla Utset is a managing associate in Sidley’s Miami office and is a member of the M&A and Private Equity practices. She focuses her practice on representing private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies in divestitures, mergers and acquisitions, sales, and general corporate matters. Beyond her primary practice, Karla commits her service as an attorney ad litem representing foster youth with Lawyers for Children America.
Carmen Ortega-Rivero is an associate in Sidley’s Miami office and is a member of the Commercial Litigation and Disputes practice. Her experience includes complex litigation disputes across diverse practice areas including, but not limited to, antitrust, class actions, commercial real estate, contracts, torts defense, and general commercial litigation. Carmen is also a member of Sidley’s Post-Dobbs Task Force.
As 2023 LCLD Pathfinders, Carmen and Karla will receive practical tools for developing and leveraging internal professional networks, foundational leadership skills, and career path strategies through online experiential learning, conversations with LCLD alumni, peer networking, and other experiences throughout the year.
