Cathy Kaplan, a retired former partner in Sidley’s New York office, has been named a winner of the “Lifetime Achievement Award” as part of New York Law Journal’s New York Legal Awards 2022. The award honors a lawyer’s accomplishments and impact on the legal community and the practice of law over an entire career.
Cathy served on the Executive Committee at Sidley and as co-leader of Sidley’s Global Finance group for 14 years. She was an early trailblazer in structured finance, developing many first-of-their-kind products which applied the techniques of structured finance to a wide array of asset classes.
The award recognizes Cathy’s remarkable career developing major innovations in structured financing while also significantly impacting art law, serving as a cutting-edge woman leader in the legal community, and playing a prominent role in many significant cultural and community institutions. An established figure in the art community and in art finance, she chairs the board of Aperture, is on the photography committee of the Whitney Museum, and is a member of the board of the Yale University Art Gallery. Cathy also teaches at Columbia Law School and chairs the Board of Visitors for Columbia Law School.
Winners will be honored at the New York Legal Awards on October 6, 2022.
