MIAMI, CHICAGO – Sidley is pleased to announce that Ian Ross has rejoined the firm’s Global Litigation group as a partner in Miami. Mr. Ross was most recently a partner and co-founder at Stumphauzer Foslid Sloman Ross & Kolaya PLLC, and previously a partner at Greenberg Traurig LLP. He is joined by associates Kyle Tanzer from Holland and Knight LLP, and Lauren Gumerove who rejoined Sidley from Greenberg Traurig LLP.
Mr. Ross represents clients in business disputes, commercial and securities litigation, class actions, and government investigations. He has defended his clients through trial in cases involving challenging financial, corporate governance, and damages issues, and succeeded on appeals involving novel issues of materiality, reliance, and causation under Florida law. He also advises and defends national manufacturers, retailers, and telecommunication and health care companies in securities and consumer class actions.
“We are excited about Ian rejoining Sidley. He began his career with us and spent six years as part of our Chicago team, but eventually returned to his hometown, Miami. Since he moved back to Florida, Ian has served as our co-counsel in many matters and developed a great reputation as top-tier litigator. Ian’s Chambers Band 1 Florida ranking in securities litigation reflects the strength of his practice in representing companies and directors on board-level matters,” said Yvette Ostolaza, Sidley’s Management Committee Chair. “With his wide-ranging skill set, our lawyers and clients are excited to have him back as a colleague and advisor.”
His governmental practice includes representing clients in connection with investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. Mr. Ross has represented corporations, directors, officers, and accounting firms in investigations involving insider trading, allegations of misappropriation and fraud, internal control (SOX and SAS 70) audits, and financial restatements relating to complex accounting issues such as revenue recognition, software capitalization, and earnout accounting.
“We’re excited to have Ian, a Florida native, join us along with recently added new partners Larry Silverman and Dee Dee Fischer and two commercial litigation associates,” said Mark Hopson, co-leader of Sidley’s Global Litigation group. “His broad litigation experience combined with his strong network in the Miami area will be a great addition to our growing litigation team.”
