Sidley offers one of the few practices in the country dedicated solely to defending the insurance industry against the expanding array of class actions. We have defended the insurance industry in nearly all of the major class action claims brought during the past fifteen years, including 401(k) plan “revenue sharing” claims, stable value fund investment strategies and costs, senior citizen annuity suitability, retained asset accounts, vanishing premium, annuity interest crediting, modal premium, industrial life, annuity sales practices, premium GAP, annuity elder care, ERISA benefit plans, ERISA contingent commission, burial insurance, DAC tax, juvenile smoking, annuity elder care suitability and credit insurance refunds. We have successfully served as lead counsel in two multidistrict litigations, winning one of the first denials of class certification in vanishing premium multidistrict proceedings, and winning (twice) in Louisiana federal court, the denial of class certification in the industrial life multidistrict proceedings. Our national orientation has fostered our service as lead counsel in hundreds of insurance class actions in dozens of jurisdictions across the U.S.
