JOSEPH SCHWARTZ focuses his practice on the formation and operation of private funds and M&A transactions in the investment management space. His private fund formation practice spans across the liquidity spectrum, including hedge funds, private equity funds, venture capital funds, credit funds, special situation funds, and other alternative investment funds. He advises and represents a wide range of investment advisory firms, fund sponsors, and other asset managers in a variety of formation, transactional, and regulatory matters. Joseph draws on his fund formation experience when representing buyers and sellers in the investment management M&A space and advising investment managers, seeders, stakers, and other strategic participants in complex negotiations of seed deals, GP stake deals, and other strategic transactions as well as acquisitions and reorganizations of investment management firms.
In 2022, Joseph was among only five fund formation attorneys nationwide to be included in Law360’s annual list of Rising Stars “whose legal accomplishments transcend their age.”

Joseph received his B.A. from Yeshiva University and his J.D. cum laude from the Northwestern University School of Law, where he was an editor of the Law Review. Joseph graduated from Northwestern as a member of its chapter of The Order of the Coif.
