STEVE McINERNEY focuses his practice on matters related to privacy and cybersecurity law.
Steve has assisted clients in preparing for, and responding to, sophisticated cybersecurity incidents, such as Cyclops Blink and Pulse Connect Secure. He also has experience assisting clients in responding to regulatory investigations and congressional inquiries, as well as defending against class action litigation.
Steve advises on diligence and deal counseling for mergers and acquisitions related to data security and privacy risks. He is also involved in negotiating and advising clients on data privacy and security terms as part of technology transactions, including drafting data protection and processing addendums and business associate agreements.
Steve also advises businesses on evolving federal and state data privacy and protection compliance issues — including the Federal Trade Commission and Section 5 of the FTC Act, HIPAA, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act), Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, and other emerging state privacy laws. In addition, he advises U.S. and EU companies on cross-border data transfers and cloud computing issues.
Steve has significant experience in a wide array of industries, including technology, aviation, healthcare, telecommunications, financial services/insurance, and other consumer-facing companies.
Steve is an IAPP Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (“CIPP”) and Certified Information Privacy Technologist (“CIPT”).
