JIM HEYWORTH practices in the Securities and Shareholder Litigation group in the firm's New York office. He represents public and private companies, major investment banks, private equity and venture capital firms, boards of directors, and individuals in a variety of actions in state and federal courts and in arbitral forums. Jim has extensive experience defending companies and directors and officers in securities class actions, shareholder derivative cases, and litigation regarding mergers and acquisitions. Jim regularly advises clients on securities and shareholder litigation risks arising out of SPAC and other capital markets transactions. In 2020, Jim was recognized as a “Rising Star” by Law360 in the Securities category.
Jim also represents clients across a wide range of industries in various commercial litigation and bankruptcy-related disputes, and conducts internal investigations on behalf of companies and independent directors.
Jim serves on the editorial board of the Enhanced Scrutiny blog, where the Sidley team provides timely updates and thoughtful analysis on M&A and corporate governance matters from the Delaware courts. He maintains an active pro bono practice, and serves as vice chair of the board of directors of PACT (Protect All Children from Trafficking), the leading policy organization in the United States seeking to end the commercial, sexual exploitation of children.
