Thomas is an Army Reserves veteran and served one tour of duty in Iraq. Thomas is also a member of the board of directors of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Hispanic Lawyers Scholarship Fund of Illinois. Thomas graduated cum laude from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. He also completed a Graduate Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) Fellowship at LAF (formerly the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago). Thomas graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a B.A. in political science.
