JOHN EKBLAD focuses his practice on advising registered funds, with a particular emphasis on open-end funds, closed-end funds, business development companies, and exchange-traded funds. John regularly works with investment advisers in connection with ongoing regulatory compliance with securities laws and regularly counsels boards of directors and investment advisers on a variety of legal, business, risk, compliance, and transactional matters arising under the Investment Company Act of 1940 and the Investment Advisers Act of 1940. He also advises independent board members on their responsibilities, including under Section 15(c) of the Investment Company Act.
John was recently recognized by Super Lawyers as a 2023 “Rising Star” of Securities & Corporate Finance. Prior to joining Sidley, John practiced at another major law firm. Prior to law school, John worked as a tax professional at a large public accounting firm. John is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) in the State of Illinois.
