Oscar Beghin

OSCAR BEGHIN advises companies and governments on all aspects of international trade law, with a particular focus on EU law. He regularly acts in litigation in front of EU courts.

Oscar represents clients in high-profile trade defense and foreign subsidies investigations launched by the European Commission, as well as in customs enforcement actions launched by various authorities.

Oscar also helps clients navigate the increasingly complex regulatory landscape at the intersection of international trade and national security. He advises on sanctions and export controls issues and works with the firm’s transactional teams to obtain foreign investment screening approvals. He also advises on legal and policy issues surrounding environmental regulation, international trade, and sustainability.

As a litigator, Oscar is recognized for his experience with procedural rules and general EU administrative law which allows him to deliver tangible litigation and pre-litigation outcomes for clients. He has already been involved in a dozen matters at both first-instance and appellate levels spanning multiple fields, including trade defense, competition and state aid, data protection, life sciences, and environmental regulation.

Oscar has lectured on EU and international trade law at Sciences Po Law School and Ghent University.

Prior to joining Sidley, Oscar worked in the trade and economic section of the EU Delegation in Canada and in the competition, trade, and environmental litigation practices of other law firms in Paris and Brussels; he also clerked in Sidley’s Geneva office.
