On September 11th, 2024, a Sidley team lead by Jennifer Saulino and Michelle Ramirez secured yet another win for Bayer AG unit Monsanto in another high-profile product liability case, Young v. Monsanto, for their flagship weedkiller, Roundup.
In the fifth case of its kind brought before the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, the twelve-person jury reached a defense verdict in less than three hours, finding that plaintiff, Ryan Young, failed to prove that Roundup was the cause of his injuries. Plaintiff claimed Monsanto sold its weedkiller Roundup despite knowing about its cancer-causing properties leading him to develop non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
The Sidley team included Jennifer Saulino, Michelle Ramirez, Elizabeth Ertle, Jaime Simon, Morgan Branch, Amanda Blau, Tyler VanderMolen, Mike Rowley, and paralegal Lisa Modaff, project assistant Lauren Rule, and legal secretary Saif Shamim. Sidley worked with Tucker Law Group; Shook, Hardy & Bacon; and Bryan Cave on the case.
