A team of Sidley lawyers represented Sound Agriculture, a leading agtech company that is improving farming and food, in a US$75 million Series D equity investment. The investment occurred in a tight fundraising climate, and was led by new investors BMO Impact Investment Fund and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, along with FootPrint Coalition and returning investors Leaps by Bayer, Syngenta Group Ventures, S2G Ventures, Fall Line Capital, Cavallo Ventures, and Northpond Ventures. The new funding will be used to advance climate-smart agriculture and sustainable food production.
Since its founding in 2013, Sound Agriculture has raised a total of US$155 million to develop nature-based solutions for sustainable food production, replacing up to 30% of climate damaging synthetic fertilizer and breeding tastier, healthier, and more sustainable crops.
The team was led by Joshua Hofheimer, Alina Azizian, and Jason Lawler (Global Agribusiness and Food; and Emerging Companies and Venture Capital), and included Idan Netser (Emerging Companies and Venture Capital; and Tax); Frank Rahmani, Derek Kang, and Eden Moalem (Emerging Companies and Venture Capital); Michael Lewis (Banking and Financial Services); Stacy Crosnicker and Sarah Recktenwald (Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation); and paralegal Jane Johnstone and project assistant Alyssia Dobrescu.
