London – YMCA London City and North, together with Sidley proudly announces the opening of VYBZ Youth Hub, a vibrant new sanctuary for young people to explore their talents, passions, and individualism.
With the aim to reach more than 1,000 young people over the next five years, the hub represents a culmination of vision, partnership, and unwavering dedication to the young people of London.
Vital youth hubs and services have been in drastic decline for decades despite the increasing need for safe, empowering spaces for young people to connect and grow. Responding to this need, a new sanctuary tailored specifically for young Londoners has emerged.
“Supporting YMCA with the development of the VYBZ Youth Hub aligns closely with Sidley's long-held commitment to supporting the [Central and North] London communities,” said Peter McCorkell, partner at Sidley. “In the five decades since Sidley established its roots in London, we have grown alongside the neighbouring communities and invested in future generations of talent. By working with YMCA on this project, we are providing local young people with a platform to learn and cultivate new skills, access to education on life matters, and an environment to inspire each other and create greater opportunities for the future.”
“Our mission is clear: to create a dynamic youth provision that meets the diverse needs of young Londoners,” said Gillian Bowen, Chief Executive Officer of YMCA London City and North. “VYBZ Youth Hub is more than just a physical space; it's a testament to the power of collaboration and community engagement. From the initial design stages to the final unveiling, young people have been at the forefront of this journey, shaping every aspect of the hub to reflect their aspirations and dreams. VYBZ addresses the immediate needs of today's young Londoners and lays the groundwork for a brighter, more inclusive future for generations to come.”
The VYBZ Youth Hub, co-designed and named by the very youth it serves, marks a significant milestone in empowering North London's next generation and transforming the community for the better.
With two distinct areas — a cutting-edge sound and music studio, a haven for budding musicians, and a versatile open-access creative space, a paradise for artists — the hub offers a dynamic environment for self-expression, learning and personal growth
YMCA London City and North and Sidley first announced their partnership in May 2022, with the firm having committed £500,000 to support the charity – including the construction of this Youth Hub – for the next five years.
