GARRETT LANCE focuses his practice on privacy, cybersecurity, and AI matters, as well as commercial litigation.
Garrett has assisted clients in investigation, and responding to, sophisticated cybersecurity and cryptocurrency-related incidents. He also regularly assists with regulatory enforcement matters.
Garrett has extensive experience in cybersecurity and privacy-related litigation, including consumer class actions, multi-district litigation, mediation, arbitration, and appeals.
Garrett also advises clients on evolving state and federal data privacy compliance issues, and digital and AI governance. In addition, he provides guidance on significant transactional matters, including privacy and cyber diligence in mergers and acquisitions, and negotiating data protection terms and agreements.
Garrett’s clients include major players in the technology, aviation, financial services, insurance, life sciences, and retail industries.
Garrett joined Sidley after clerking for Judge Michael J. Garcia of the New York Court of Appeals. He also completed a pro bono fellowship with the litigation team at Everytown for Gun Safety. Garrett received his law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center, where he was a Technology Law and Policy Scholar, an editor of the Georgetown Law Journal, and an intern with the U.S. Department of Justice Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section.
