
Biography
JACKSON GARVEY represents companies, sponsors, secured lenders, agents, and bondholder groups in connection with financial and operational restructurings (both in and out of court) and distressed asset dispositions and acquisitions. Jackson also advises corporate boards in connection with restructurings and potential insolvency scenarios. Jackson maintains an active pro bono practice with a focus on veterans issues and Section 1983 litigation.
Jackson earned his law degree, with highest honors, from Notre Dame Law School. He was awarded the “Dean Joseph O’Meara Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement” in May 2015. Jackson earned bachelor’s degrees in economics and psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Jackson was selected to Turnarounds & Workouts “Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyers” list in 2025, which is limited to only 15 professionals nationally. Debtor and Sponsor Engagements:
- Conn’s, Inc. – Represents Conn’s, Inc. and its affiliates in connection with their Chapter 11 cases. Conn’s and its affiliates operated a large chain of appliance, furniture, and home goods stores and a consumer finance business.
- Impel Pharmaceuticals – Represented Impel Pharmaceuticals and one of its subsidiaries in connection with their Chapter 11 cases. Impel was a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company with a mission to develop transformative therapies for people suffering from diseases with high unmet medical needs.
- Auto Plus – Represented Icahn Enterprises L.P. and certain of its affiliates in connection with the bankruptcy of their subsidiary, auto parts retailer Auto Plus.
- Power Plant – Represented a coal-fired power plant in connection with its out-of-court debt restructuring.
- Accelerate Diagnostics, Inc. – Represented Accelerate Diagnostics, Inc. in connection with the out-of-court restructuring of its matured bond debt. Accelerate Diagnostics, Inc. Accelerate Diagnostics is a diagnostics company focused on antibiotic resistance and sepsis in the hospital setting.
- Amsterdam House Continuing Care Retirement Community, Inc. – Represented Amsterdam House in connection with its Chapter 11 case. Amsterdam House is a continuing care retirement community located on Long Island.
- Exide Technologies – Represented Exide Technologies in connection with certain post-confirmation matters in its Chapter 11 case. Exide is an integrated recycler of used lead-acid batteries and a manufacturer of new lead-acid batteries for automotive, truck, SUV, heavy-duty, marine and other applications.
- Car Outlet Investment Inc. and Total Finance Investment Inc. – Represented Car Outlet Investment Inc., Total Finance Investment Inc., and their respective subsidiaries in their Chapter 11 cases. Prior to their bankruptcy cases, Car Outlet and Total Finance were one of the largest buy-here pay-here automobile dealership operations in Illinois.
- HCR ManorCare, Inc. – Represented HCR ManorCare, Inc. and its affiliates in their Chapter 11 cases. HCR ManorCare is the nation’s second-largest post-acute and long-term healthcare provider. The restructuring was named the 2018 “Chapter 11 Reorganization of the Year” for transactions between $1 billion and $5 billion by The M&A Advisor and a “Successful Restructuring of 2018” by Turnarounds & Workouts.
- UCI International LLC – Represented UCI International and its affiliated debtors in their Chapter 11 cases. UCI International is among North America’s largest and most diversified companies servicing the vehicle replacement parts market.
Creditor and Purchaser Engagements:
- UpHealth, Inc. – Represents Glocal Healthcare Systems Private Limited and certain of its related parties in connection with the chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings of UpHealth, Inc. and certain of its affiliates and various related litigation related to a de-SPAC transaction.
- Global Clean Energy Holdings – Represents Vitol Americas, Inc. as DIP lender, supply and offtake agreement provider, and prepetition lender to Global Clean Energy Holdings, a publicly-traded vertically integrated renewable fuels production and refining company.
- 99 Cents Only Stores – Represented the Agent under 99 Cents Only Stores’ prepetition senior secured ABL credit facility in connection with the Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases of 99 Cents Only Stores. 99 Cents Only Stores was a discount retailer.
- Anthelion Capital Holdings – Successfully guided Anthelion Capital Holdings (formerly known as Cowen Sustainable Investments) through the acquisition of the Energy business unit of integrated electric bus and commercial vehicle power train manufacturer Proterra Inc. The transaction was named the “Large Company Turnaround/Transaction of the Year” for 2024 by the Turnaround Management Association.
- Samarco Mineração S.A. – Represented the bank group in connection with the restructuring of Samarco Mineracão S.A, a Brazilian producer of iron ore pellets and a joint venture between Vale and BHP. Samarco Mineracão S.A. filed for judicial reorganization in Brazil and Chapter 15 in the United States in April 2021, after suffering a dam collapse in 2015.
- Core Scientific – Represented New York Digital Investment Group (NYDIG) in connection with the bankruptcy of its borrower, Core Scientific, Inc., under certain equipment financing arrangements. Core Scientific, Inc. is an industrial-scale Bitcoin miner.
- Teligent, Inc. – Represented Leiters, Inc. in connection with the purchase of a 110,000 square foot clean manufacturing facility from the Chapter 11 bankruptcy estates of Teligent, Inc.
- Chesapeake Energy Corporation – Represented the Agent under Chesapeake Energy’s prepetition and debtor-in-possession senior secured financing facilities in connection with Chesapeake Energy’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases.
- Global Knowledge Training LLC – Represented the Agent under Global Knowledge Training LLC’s senior secured credit facility in connection with Churchill Capital’s out-of-court acquisition of Skillsoft and Global Knowledge via a special purpose acquisition company.
- Molycorp Minerals, LLC – Represented the ad hoc committee of unsecured noteholders in connection with their purchase of assets from Molycorp Minerals in its Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases and the negotiation of Molycorp Minerals’ Chapter 11 plan.
- Open Peak Inc. – Represented a creditor and licensee of intellectual property from Open Peak in connection with the Chapter 11 bankruptcy case of Open Peak Inc..
- Samson Resources Corp. – Represented a purchaser of assets from Samson Resources in its Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
