The recent rise in hate crimes and other forms of physical violence and verbal attacks against members of the Asian-American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community is as disturbing as it is heartbreaking. These crimes, the ideas that spawned them – and discrimination of any kind – have no place in our society. We extend our sympathies to the families of the victims, and we stand in solidarity with Sidley’s Asian-American Pacific Islander professionals and staff, as well as the broader AAPI community.
We are proud of our long history of commitments to diversity and inclusion at our firm, and in the communities we serve, but the growing violence against the AAPI community also serves as a sad reminder of the progress still to be made in pursuit of a just and equitable society. Advancing that goal is the primary mission of many organizations that Sidley is proud to sponsor and support, including the three below, whose work is more important than ever:
As a firm, we remain steadfast in our efforts to combat all forms of discrimination, and we condemn any act of racism, bigotry, xenophobia, or violence. We encourage others to do the same. As a society, we simply must do better.
