Profiles with Pride: Sidley’s Illuminating Excellence Series
Did you ever have any hesitation sharing that you’re part of the LGBTQ+ community at Sidley or at any other point in your career?
I came out in my late twenties shortly before coming to Sidley and decided at that time to just be honest. People were either going to like me or not. I made up my mind that I was going to be myself, work hard, and do my best.
What has been your experience as an [LGBTQ+ employee/openly gay man] at Sidley?
I’ve had a wonderful career and experience at Sidley. Being an openly gay man has been a “big nothing”… in a good way.
In your leadership position, you are a role model for many at the firm. Do you think your professional experience has been different as a gay man?
No, I don’t think my professional experience has been different as a gay man. Throughout my 20+ years at the firm, I have had countless opportunities to develop professionally and grow in my career. I have been fortunate enough to be able to build many terrific professional relationships that have helped me personally, and that have made me feel a part of the “Sidley family.” I have never felt that my career opportunities or relationships have been impacted one way or another by my sexual orientation.
