In 2020, the senseless deaths of George Floyd and too many other Americans of color posed a brutal reminder of the racial injustice and systemic inequality pervasive in our society. In 2021, the rise in bias, racist attacks, and violent crimes against the Asian-American Pacific Islander and the Jewish community display anew the loss, trauma, fear, and pain that such abhorrent behavior brings to our fellow Americans. These moments and this era demand that we stand in solidarity with members of all communities affected by these and other tragedies and against the ideas that foment them: Sidley firmly condemns all forms of hate, xenophobia, bigotry, and violence based on gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality, disability, national origin, or religion.
We further reaffirm our commitment to the work we are doing to combat racial and social injustice and to advance the fundamental principles of equality, inclusion and justice – within our firm, but also in society at large. We are committed to action in support of these principles, in the work that we pursue, the causes we support, and in the time our people dedicate to pro bono representation of groups working for social justice.
We know that as an organization, we are better off because of our longstanding commitment to these fundamental principles. Most importantly, we know what is right and just. As a society, we can and must advance the idea that diversity makes us stronger and inclusion makes us better.
