In a milestone decision on transatlantic data protection in October 2015, the Court of Justice of the European Union issued its judgment in the Schrems case, declaring the Commission decision on the EU-U.S. Safe Harbor agreement invalid. In another monumental decision in February 2016, the Commission announced a political agreement and new framework to restore trust in transatlantic data flows, the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield.
