Biography

JOHN WALKER focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, and private equity. 

John earned his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School, where he received the Ann Watson Outstanding Service Award (2023), given to graduating law students who have made exceptional contributions to the quality of life at the law school.

Prior to law school, John attended Florida State University, where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Political Science. During college, John volunteered with numerous non-profit organizations, including the National Suicide Prevention Hotline (2017‒2018), and was named Humanitarian of the Year (2018) by FSU’s College of Criminology.

Experience

Representative Matters

John assisted with the representation of:

  • Vistra Corp. in the issuance of US$1.25 billion aggregate principal amount of senior secured notes, consisting of US$500 million aggregate principal amount of 5.050% senior secured notes due 2026 and US$750 million aggregate principal amount of 5.700% senior secured notes due 2034 (pending).
  • Carlyle and KKR in its agreement to acquire a US$10.1 billion portfolio of prime private student loans from Discover Bank.
  • Casa Systems, Inc., and certain of its affiliates, in their Chapter 11 proceedings in the Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. 
  • Stonepeak in take-private transaction of Akumin through Chapter 11 process, resulting in deleveraging and recapitalization of Akumin.
