ADAM BARBER is a partner in Sidley’s New York Real Estate group. Adam’s practice focuses on the financing, development, acquisition and disposition of a wide variety of commercial real estate properties including hotels, office buildings, multi-family properties and retail properties. Adam frequently represents lenders and borrowers in the origination of mortgage and mezzanine loans, including construction loans. He also has experience in connection with the formation of real estate joint ventures, the financing of various types of properties utilizing tax-exempt municipal bonds and the representation of financial institutions in connection with the origination of warehouse lending facilities.
Representative transactions include:
- Origination of a US$475 million mortgage and mezzanine construction loan for the development of an office and retail building as part of the Hudson Yards project on Manhattan’s West Side
- Representation of a developer in connection with the refinancing of a US$550 million mortgage loan secured by a multi-family residential building in Manhattan, proceeds of which came from the issuance of both tax-exempt municipal bonds and commercial mortgage-backed securities
- Origination of a US$450 million mortgage and mezzanine construction loan for the development of a 65-story luxury condominium building in Midtown Manhattan
- Representation of a developer in a joint-venture formation involving the sale of a 49% interest in a luxury apartment building in Manhattan’s Financial District
