Sidley represented Denham Capital’s portfolio company Serra Verde in its US$150 million investment by Vision Blue Resources and The Energy & Minerals Group. Serra Verde is developing an integrated rare earth element (REE) mining and processing operation in Brazil, and is on track to be only the third non-Asian scale producer, as well as the first to produce all four critical magnetic REEs. All four of these REEs are essential to the manufacture of permanent magnets for use in electric vehicle motors and wind turbine generators, for which demand is growing prolifically. The investment will accelerate and expand the production needed to support the transition toward a low-carbon economy.
The Sidley team was led by Joshua DuClos (Private Equity) and George Vlahakos (Energy and Infrastructure), as well as counsel Chris Folmsbee and John Stribling (Energy and Infrastructure). The team also included John Brannan III (Energy and Infrastructure); Karin Baca (Private Equity); and Angela T. Richards and Aaron S. Mitchell (Tax).
