Sidley assisted clients in restructuring filings totaling over US$63 billion in liabilities for the period from July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024. The Deal’s Restructuring Insider highlighted “the ascendance of Sidley Austin from fifth to first place among law firms,” since Q1 2024.
In addition, the firm is ranked the number three counsel for out-of-court restructurings for the same period by The Deal. The out-of-court rankings are based on number of deals on behalf of distressed companies experiencing financial restructuring ongoing or completed in the last rolling twelve months. Sidley has maintained its number three Q1 2024 position in the out-of-court rankings with fourteen deals — coming in a close third to the number two firm, which clocked fifteen deals during the twelve-month period.
The firm also fared well in other first-half 2024 leagues. Reorg ranked Sidley the number three “Most Retained Legal Advisor – Company/Debtor,” and Debtwire ranked Sidley number five in their “Lead Counsel” rankings.
