Join us for the next episode in Sidley’s ongoing AI webinar series on Thursday, December 12, 2024, hosted in conjunction with the Environment, Energy & Natural Resources Community of the DC Bar, and the Energy, Policy & Government Network.
The rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has created a surge in demand for data center services, which in turn, has created a significant increase in demand for electric power. The electric grid already has adequacy and reliability issues, so this growth presents major new challenges to the FERC, the transmission sector, and data centers. Panelists from Sidley, FERC, and the data center industry will explore issues such as:
- What is the FERC doing to address the new power demand growth from data centers?
- How will regional ISOs allocate grid expansion costs, considering different levels of expansion across states driven by local policies?
- What will regulators do to meet the demand of data centers to co-locate power generation?
