Sidley is a proud sponsor of the Retail Industry Leaders Association’s annual Retail Law Conference.
On October 26, Sidley partner Amy Lally will moderate a panel titled “Navigating A Corporate Crisis: Complying With Ethics Rules While Facing ‘Unknown Unknowns’” featuring Sheila Armbrust, partner at Sidley; and Danielle Hohos, Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Williams-Sonoma, Inc. The session will explore (1) practical skills for meeting ethical obligations to the company in crisis situations; (2) peer learning of best practices for managing overlapping and sometimes conflicting business and legal interests; and (3) a hands-on situation room style exercise to role play different scenarios.
In today’s dynamic environment, companies and their executives are confronted with multiple crisis situations. As some crises escalate, others wane and new ones emerge. In-house counsel is often tasked with managing and addressing the business and legal implications of the crises, but must do so within the construct of the proscribed ethical rules. This session will present a mock “situation room” wherein participants will play the role of General Counsel to a hypothetical retailer and its subsidiaries. The moderator will present the group with a series of crisis situations that the participants will talk through to address. To facilitate discussion, our outside counsel panelist will review the relevant ethical rules that must guide our general counsel’s decision making and our in-house counsel panelist will share perspectives on best practices from within the industry. The result is a dynamic, engaging, and informative session.
As the premier event for retail corporate counsel, the Retail Law Conference attracts general counsel and other top in-house attorneys from leading U.S. retailers. Attendees can connect with senior most retail corporate counsel and elite outside counsel. Having represented retailers for decades, Sidley has built a reputation for successfully handling complex and multidisciplinary transactional, regulatory, and litigation matters spanning a range of legal areas. Our expansive experience in the retail industry, along with our lawyers’ frequent research and publications on industry trends, allows us to provide thoughtful advice for the myriad legal and business challenges that retail organizations face.
