Lawyer Training and Professional Development
Sidley has an award-winning team of professionals who provide comprehensive continuing education, skills training and career development resources to lawyers at all levels and in all practices across the firm. The team’s mission is to help Sidley lawyers become more skilled, more self-confident, more satisfied and more successful, and to feel more supported throughout their Sidley careers. Library and Research Services
The Library and Research Services department supports firm personnel and clients by providing information and research services in ways that are convenient, technologically innovative and cost effective. Library business professionals can perform in-depth research and monitor developments in the law and other topics of interest to help keep lawyers up to date on issues relevant to their clients and practice. They assist in searching databases and online resources, facilitate research training and conduct bibliographic instruction. They also are responsible for developing and maintaining a legal and business reference library designed to meet the needs of the firm.
Marketing and Business Development
Sidley’s Marketing and Business Development department is composed of a talented team of professionals with the wide range of skills and backgrounds required to support the diverse needs of a global law firm. Supporting Sidley's firmwide and practice area initiatives, as well as lawyers’ individual marketing goals, marketing team members enjoy a supportive and collaborative culture and have numerous opportunities to participate in projects that directly impact the growth of the firm.
Paralegals
Sidley has a diverse roster of paralegals and project assistants who play an important and critical role in the effective delivery of legal services to our clients. Paralegals are assigned to a specific practice group and work closely with lawyers to provide support in transactional or litigation matters. Project assistants assist paralegals with the organisation of files, administrative tasks and other activities. Challenging and interesting work, including pro bono opportunities, is commonplace.
Facilities and Office Services
Sidley’s Facilities and Office Services department is responsible for providing a safe, comfortable and efficient work environment for lawyers and business professionals. The team provides a range of services to support internal local office functions, including acting as liaison with building management; overseeing telephone operators, maintenance, housekeeping, supply, mail and reprographic services; acquiring office furniture and accessories; coordinating office moves and space needs; and managing catering and conference services.
Records Management
The effective management of the firm’s records and information, including both records regarding work for firm clients and the firm’s own business records, is critical to achieving operational efficiency and delivering the highest quality legal services. Sidley’s Records Management team helps protect the intellectual property, confidentiality and other interests of the firm and its clients, allowing lawyers to serve clients effectively while minimising risk.
Secretarial Services
Sidley’s secretarial staff are well trained, highly qualified and motivated. The goal of the Secretarial Services department is to ensure that lawyers’ support needs are met quickly and efficiently, allowing them to focus on practicing law. Primary responsibilities of our secretarial staff include typing, formatting and printing documents; entering time into the time billing system; processing expense reimbursements; managing workflow, calendars and schedules; and maintaining files.
