Our lawyers collaborate across the firm’s multiple legal disciplines to serve clients in such areas as M&A and private equity, global finance, capital markets, corporate governance, investment funds, and shareholder activism and corporate defense. We have a history of advising multinational clients on litigation, transactional, and regulatory matters involving a range of industries, including financial services, technology, life sciences, consumer products, and numerous others. Our lawyers are highly attuned to opportunities for competitive, strategic growth — particularly in key markets where our clients conduct business.
About Our Team
The firm’s investment in top talent continues to attract lawyers to our New York office whose skill and reputation place them at the top of their respective practices. Many of our lawyers bring a wealth of experience from prior industry service and leadership at key governmental organizations. Our team members include lawyers with decades of prior experience working in-house at multinational companies; transactional and regulatory lawyers who have held senior positions with the Securities and Exchange Commission and FINRA; as well as litigators who have previously served in high-ranking positions with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, including as Acting Deputy United States Attorney.
Strong advocacy on behalf of our clients consistently earns our New York lawyers recognition in such publications as The American Lawyer, Chambers, The National Law Journal, Law360, U.S. News, Best Lawyers in America, the New York Law Journal, and Crain’s New York Business magazine.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Reflecting the vibrant diversity of the people and cultures that comprise the tapestry of New York and its status as a global city, our lawyers are active participants in organizations that seek to include underrepresented lawyers in the legal community. These organizations also offer civic and corporate leadership opportunities that celebrate the achievements, history, and culture of underrepresented communities. In addition to our robust firmwide initiatives including programs led by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee and SidleyWomen, our New York lawyers are involved in such organizations as the Council of Urban Professionals, Lambda, Hispanic National Bar Association, Metropolitan Black Bar Association, and National Association of Women Lawyers, among others. We are deeply committed to ensuring that the firm builds inclusive teams, creating a strong, inclusive, and welcoming culture, and advancing DEI within the greater legal profession through the power of our longstanding commitment, utilization of legal precedent, advocacy, and programming. In recognition of their achievements, our lawyers have been named to the Crain’s New York Business lists of “Notable Black Leaders & Executives” and “Notable Women in Law,” as well as earning accolades from Latino Leaders Magazine and Diversity & The Bar Magazine.
Committed to Our Communities
Sidley has long been dedicated to providing pro bono legal services to support and foster social change in the communities where we live and work. We partner with organizations such as Lawyers Alliance, Start Small Think Big, Brooklyn Defender Services, Sanctuary for Families, and the City Bar Justice Center to provide pro bono assistance to New York’s most vulnerable residents, entrepreneurs, and small businesses. Our lawyers in New York are active participants in Sidley’s firmwide pro bono programs, including our Veterans Advocacy Project, Political Asylum and Immigrants’ Rights Project, and our Capital Litigation Project. We also work with Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts to provide pro bono counsel to nonprofit arts and cultural organizations, as well as individual artists who cannot typically afford the legal services needed to survive and grow. This investment helps our communities thrive and helps empower our neighbors to share their stories and stand up for their rights.
Additionally, Sidley’s Corporate Social Responsibility program focuses on large-scale community engagement initiatives. Through our strong and longstanding relationships with nonprofit partners, and often working in tandem with our paying clients, we make a difference by harnessing our resources to support the underserved in our communities. We work with many local charitable organizations on initiatives that help our neighborhoods flourish, including championing education, promoting literacy programs, and serving as mentors for at-risk students and first-generation job seekers; combating food insecurity for struggling individuals; and empowering underserved women to pursue their career goals. We also participate in a food rescue program, as well as recovery and revitalization projects at schools, parks, and community centers.
