Sidley’s retirement benefits separate us from other law firms and businesses. In the case of the Retirement Plan (which is provided only to business professionals) employee contributions are not required to receive the benefit. The Retirement Plan also provides the opportunity to receive a lifetime retirement income. Additionally, the 401(k) Plan (which is available to all personnel and lawyers) allows employees to elect to defer a portion of their compensation to help further their retirement goals.

Advantages:

  • Benefit Growth: Unlike retirement benefits that can decrease due to downturns in the market, Sidley’s Retirement Plan benefit increases every year with interest credits until you receive a distribution from the plan. Additionally, the benefit increases with service credits.
  • No Investment Hassle: Business professionals do not need to manage investments or worry about a decrease in the benefit due to market downturns.
  • Opportunity for Stable Income: Upon retirement, you can receive a fixed monthly income for life, which can also extend to your spouse. Alternatively, you can choose to receive your Retirement Plan benefit as a single lump-sum payment.

Savings and Investment Plan (the “401(k) Plan”)

The 401(k) Plan helps you build your retirement savings. You may elect to defer a portion of your plan-eligible compensation to the 401(k) Plan. The amount that you defer is funded through salary deferrals from your plan-eligible compensation, and you can choose whether your contributions are to be made as either before-tax contributions, Roth 401(k) contributions, after-tax contributions, or any combination of the three. With the 401(k) Plan, you choose how your contributions are invested.

Our reputation for excellence is built upon a foundation of hiring the best people and providing them with outstanding professional development opportunities.

Sidley’s Learning and Development team delivers engaging, relevant, and timely learning solutions to ensure our business professionals are able to perform to the best of their abilities.
