STELLA PERANTAKOU advises governments and companies on international trade law issues, in particular on WTO law and dispute settlement. A particular focus for Stella is the intersection between trade and sustainability, including new international rule-making in sustainable trade, and trade aspects of relevant national regulations, in particular the European Union Green Deal.
Before joining Sidley, Stella served for nearly two years as a dispute settlement lawyer at the WTO Secretariat. In that capacity, she advised WTO panels on complex and novel issues, with a focus on trade remedies. Prior to joining the WTO, Stella completed internships at a law firm and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Greece.
Stella has received an LL.M. from the University of Barcelona on International Economic Law and Policy, having submitted her final research paper on State Owned Enterprises and the anti-competitive practices covered by the WTO GATS Agreement. She has participated, and received distinctions, in the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition on WTO law, grappling with the WTO consistency of renewable energy subsidies; thereafter, she has been serving as a panellist at the same competition.
