ALESSANDRA MORONI advises and represents companies, governments, and trade associations on a wide range of EU and international trade and investment law matters, with particular focus on:
- Investment screening, regularly assisting clients identifying and mitigating investment screening risks in complex international transactions, managing multi-jurisdictional investment screening reviews and filings in the EU and globally, and providing relevant transactional support.
- Subsidy controls (under the EU’s Anti-Subsidy Regulation and Foreign Subsidies Regulation) and other trade defense instruments (anti-dumping and safeguard measures), assisting clients in investigations before the European Commission, and other procedures in the EU.
- Export controls and sanctions, assisting clients with strategic compliance issues, including by requesting licenses before competent authorities in the EU, conducting internal investigations, developing compliance policies, conducting transactional due diligence, and advising on compliance enhancements. Most recently, Alessandra has been advising on Russia-related sanctions.
- Other trade matters, including supply chain due diligence and reporting requirements, forced labor, general market access opportunities, and compliance of trade measures with EU and WTO rules.
Alessandra was recognized in Who’s Who Legal as a recommended practitioner for Foreign Investment Control in 2024.
Prior to joining Sidley, Alessandra worked at international law firms in Milan, Hong Kong, and Beijing, advising clients on international business transactions and regulatory compliance. She also gained academic experience as a teaching assistant at Università Commerciale L. Bocconi (Milan) and as an editor of various law journals, including the Cambridge Law Review and Bocconi Legal Papers.
Alessandra holds an LL.M. from the University of Cambridge and has previously studied in Italy and Spain. She is fluent in Italian and English, and has good knowledge of Spanish and French.
