JIM LOWE is an experienced antitrust lawyer who focuses his practice on merger and civil and criminal non-merger investigations. He is a skilled oral advocate for his clients at federal and state agencies and in trial court and appellate litigation. He regularly provides counseling on antitrust and related issues regarding distribution, licensing, and transactions. Jim has experience working with the Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, the Departments of Commerce, Transportation, Defense, and Education, and other state and federal agencies. He regularly represents entities with competitive concerns about proposed transactions.
Jim’s clients are in a variety of industries, including oil and gas, forest products, paper, building materials, airlines, railroads, telecommunications and financial services. In addition to antitrust, he has practiced in general litigation and the areas of communications and transportation law. Jim has extensive experience in complex matter management.
Prior to joining Sidley, Jim practiced at a large law firm in Washington, D.C., with a prominent antitrust practice. He has gained recognition as a leader in his field by Chambers USA in the 2015–2024 editions. Jim was also listed in the 2006–2008 and 2011–2024 editions of Who’s Who Legal and was selected by his peers in the 2009–2025 editions of Best Lawyers in America in the area of antitrust law. He was also selected as a Washington, D.C. Super Lawyer in 2011–2020. Jim spent the first four years of his legal career as a lawyer at the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.
