LAUREN DECARLO focuses her practice on environmental regulatory compliance and counseling, with experience defending clients against enforcement actions brought by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Environmental Protection Agency. She advises clients on a wide range of environmental laws, including the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), the Clean Air Act (CAA), the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), and the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), and assists clients with state and federal regulatory monitoring. Lauren also prepares clients for engaging with regulators and lawmakers through formal agency petitioning and settlement negotiations. She has represented clients in various sectors, including chemical manufacturing and industrial/commercial operations, ensuring they navigate complex regulatory landscapes effectively.
In addition to her environmental practice, Lauren is committed to pro bono work. She has represented clients seeking compassionate release and has handled cases involving civil rights claims under 42 U.S.C. § 1983.
Prior to joining Sidley, Lauren served as a law clerk to the Honorable Mary Briscoe of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and to the Honorable J.P. Stadtmueller of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. Lauren graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law, where she served as an associate editor of the University of Illinois Law Review. Before law school, she worked in government relations in Chicago and Springfield.
