Biography

ELDON CHAN’s practice focuses on cross-border inbound and outbound mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, early and late-stage venture capital, and growth equity investments. He has experience in advising private and listed companies across Asia and the U.S. in a variety of industries, including technology, healthcare, financial services, real estate, telecommunications, and infrastructure. He also has experience counselling founders through all stages of the startup lifecycle, from incorporation and fundraising to exit.

Eldon is ranked by Chambers Asia Pacific 2025 as an “Associate to Watch” in Singapore for Startups & Emerging Companies work. In the 2025 edition of the guide, clients shared that “Eldon is very responsive and client-friendly in his approach. Prior to joining Sidley, Eldon worked at international U.S. law firms in Singapore and Hong Kong.

  • PT J Resources Nusantara, a subsidiary of PT J Resources Asia Pasifik Tbk. (IDX: PSAB), on the US$540 million sale of PT Arafura Surya Alam, an Indonesian gold mining company, to PT Danusa Tambang Nusantara, a subsidiary of PT United Tractor Tbk. and member of the Astra group.
  • KKR and Barghest Building Performance (bbp), a leading energy-savings-as-a-service provider for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in Asia, on the sale of bbp to Actis, a leading growth markets investor in sustainable infrastructure.
  • Stonepeak, a leading alternative investment firm specializing in infrastructure and real assets with approximately US$57.1 billion of assets under management, on the following transactions:
    • Stonepeak on its strategic, preferred share investment into AGP Sustainable Real Assets, a Singapore-based global infrastructure and real assets developer and operator. “Highly Commended” for “Best Infrastructure Deal – Singapore/APAC”, FinanceAsia Achievement Awards 2024.
    • Stonepeak’s establishment of Peak Energy, a Singapore-based platform dedicated to the development, ownership, and operation of renewable assets in Asia.
  • KKR on its primary and secondary investment into PHINMA Education, one of the largest private higher education groups in Southeast Asia with colleges and universities in the Philippines and Indonesia.
  • Hillhouse Capital on its bid to acquire Eu Yan Sang, one of the leading traditional Chinese medicine retailer and manufacturers in Asia.
  • Xenith IG, a portfolio company of DigitalBridge and Columbia Capital, on its various acquisitions in Southeast Asia.
  • GDS Holdings Ltd, a leading developer and operator of high-performance data centers in Asia, on its joint venture with the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA), Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund, to develop and expand the data center landscape in Indonesia.
  • ChrysCapital, a leading investment firm in India, on its bid to acquire Indian medical device maker Healthium Medtech (in conjunction with Mankind Pharma) from Apax Funds.
  • SSG Capital Management on a proposed US$300 million co-investment into certain critical infrastructure assets.
  • Genesis Medtech, a Singapore- and P.R.C.-based life sciences medical device company, on its acquisition of a drug-coated balloon from QT Vascular (SGX: 5I0) and joint venture with Shockwave Medical (Nasdaq: SWAV).
  • Hailiang Group, a P.R.C.-based diversified mining conglomerate on its hostile takeover of ASA Resource Group (LSE: ASA) and subsequent auction bid of certain assets.

Technology Transactions and Venture Capital

  • Grab Holdings on its various acquisitions and investments in Asia.
  • Lightspeed India Partners and Peak XV (fka Sequoia), as lead investors in the Series C financing round of Aspire, a Southeast Asia-based neobank which offers a full-stack finance operating system for businesses. 
  • Jungle Ventures, a Singapore-based venture capital fund on its various venture capital investments in Southeast Asia. 
  • Anderson Investments, an investment arm of Temasek, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, on its pre-IPO investment in Bolt Threads, a California based biomaterials startup and various other technology-related investments in the United States.
  • Lever VC, a U.S.-based alternative proteins venture capital fund, as lead investor in the Series A financing round of Bond Pet Foods. 
  • EDBI, the investment arm of the Singapore Economic Development Board, in its Series A investment in Automera, a company developing an autophagy drug designed to target chimera small molecules (AUTACs).
  • Coatue Management, a U.S.-based hedge fund, on its various venture capital investments.
  • Endowus, a Singapore-based digital investment advisor, on its SG$23 million Series A fundraise led by Lightspeed and its subsequent SG$35 million fundraise co-led by Naspers and EDBI.
  • Spenmo, a Singapore-based cloud payments software and expense management platform startup, on its US$35 million Series A fundraise led by Insight Partners and its US$85 million Series B fundraise led by Tiger Global.
  • G7 Networks, a leading P.R.C.-based internet of things logistics startup, on its US$300 million Series D fundraising and HK$250 million cold chain logistics joint venture with Marubeni Corporation.
  • Meesho, an India-based social commerce platform on its US$300 million Series E fundraise led by SoftBank.
  • Mineski, a Philippines-based e-sports startup, on its US$10 million Series A fundraise led by Mizuho.
  • Cosmart, an Indonesian membership-based e-commerce platform for essential products, in the closing of its Series Seed fundraise, which was led by Lightspeed Ventures, with participation from East Ventures and Vertex Ventures.

  • Diri Care, an Indonesia-based consumer health technology startup that operates a digital clinic focusing on skin, hair, and related health conditions, in the closing of its Series Seed fundraising co-led by East Ventures and Sequoia Capital.
  • Snap Inc. (NYSE: SNAP) on its various venture capital investments.
