As one of the energy industry’s top women lawyers working on high-profile energy sector matters, Tara Higgins regularly leads complex, multi-billion-dollar transactions on behalf of a broad range of clients who are involved in the constantly evolving power, sustainability, and renewables segment of the energy industry. Her private equity, strategic, and finance clients benefit from her extensive experience in both M&A and financing for energy projects. Tara led the largest renewables transaction in US history for Invenergy in their US$3 billion equity raise from Blackstone, and was named an Energy MVP by Law360 in 2021. Further, Tara has been a leading advocate for women and has promoted a more inclusive workplace in the legal industry. She serves as a member of notable industry groups, including Women of Renewable Industries and Sustainable Energy (WRISE) and Women's Energy Network (WEN).
Tara co-leads Sidley's global Energy practice area team, focusing her practice on the development, financing, acquisition, disposition, and restructuring of energy and infrastructure projects. Her extensive experience includes project financings, high-yield and bond financings, and other senior secured lending transactions, project development, restructurings and bankruptcy-related transactions, including Section 363 sales, mergers and acquisitions, joint development arrangements, and miscellaneous investor arrangements.
