Washington, D.C. – Sidley is pleased to announce that Adam Raviv has joined the firm’s Regulatory and Enforcement group as global co-chair of the firm’s Automotive and Mobility industry group, and counsel in the Environmental practice in Washington, D.C. Mr. Raviv was most recently Chief Counsel at the U.S. Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). At Sidley, he will focus on NHTSA investigations and regulatory and collateral class action litigation as well as international arbitration, commercial litigation, and advising on government and professional ethics.
“Adam’s understanding of the NHTSA will help us deepen our relationships in the automotive, mobility, and transportation sectors,” said Kristin Graham Koehler, a member of the firm’s Management Committee and managing partner of Sidley’s Washington, D.C. office. “With new regulations and guidance for autonomous vehicles, Adam will also work closely with others across the D.C. office and the firm in supporting our clients’ deals and investments in this space.”
As Chief Counsel of the NHTSA, Mr. Raviv led a 45-member legal department and advised on high-profile litigation, enforcement, and rulemakings related to vehicle safety recalls, autonomous vehicles, fuel economy, and other matters. Prior to his role with the NHTSA, Mr. Raviv served in the U.S. Department of Justice as Senior Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division, managing sensitive and high-profile cases, including mass torts and major tariff disputes, and as Senior Ethics Counsel for Presidential Personnel at the White House, advising on government ethics and financial disclosure issues. He also practiced as a government and regulatory litigation and international arbitration attorney for over 16 years and clerked for Judge Stanley Marcus in the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.
“Adam is a highly experienced lawyer who combines keen litigation experience with deep knowledge of the rulemaking and legislative processes across the federal government,” said Stephen Cohen, global practice leader of the firm’s Regulatory and Enforcement group and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. “He joins over 100 lawyers at the firm who have held senior positions within key regulatory agencies in the U.S. and globally, and Adam will further deepen that bench.”
