Brussels – Sidley is pleased to announce that Elisabetta “Betta” Righini has joined the Brussels office as a partner in the firm’s Antitrust and Competition practice. She joins from Latham & Watkins, where she was a partner, and prior to that, she held several senior positions at the European Commission.
Ms. Righini regularly advises digital platforms and media services on developments in the EU Digital Single Market — including in connection with the Digital Markets Act (DMA), Digital Services Act (DSA), and AI Act — and represents them in front of EU institutions and courts in relation to compliance or investigations.
She also guides companies, industry associations, and public authorities on State aid and FSR compliance, including in filings, complaints and investigations at the European Commission, and litigation before the European courts. She has extensive experience as a litigator, having appeared before European courts in over 100 cases relating to a variety of EU law issues.
“Betta is one of the leading lawyers advising clients on AI and EU tech regulation; I am excited to have her join Sidley,” said Ken Daly, managing partner of Sidley’s Brussels office and co-head of the Antitrust and Competition practice. “As the EU continues to position itself as a global regulator of tech companies, clients will be turning to Betta’s significant EU experience to navigate and defend them through the raft of EU tech laws.”
“Betta’s background as a former top EU Commission official has made her a leading advisor for some of the largest global technology companies in the world on their most critical issues,” said Yvette Ostolaza, Sidley’s Management Committee Chair and Executive Committee member. “Sidley continues to be a go-to firm for some of the most significant and complex work for our clients in the tech sector and we will continue to invest in this industry. We have now added, with London-based tech and AI Partner Clive Gringras and Betta Righini, two leaders in the EU tech space.”
