Work-Life Benefits
Sidley provides a variety of benefits to help lawyers better manage their work and personal lives. These include subsidized back-up child and elder care, an employee assistance program, healthcare advocacy and wellness services, and a career coaching program for parents.
Parental Leave and Reduced Work Schedules
Sidley is committed to supporting our lawyers during significant life events, including the birth or adoption of a child. We provide associates up to 14 weeks of paid parental leave following the birth (including surrogacy) or adoption of a child. This is in addition to the eight weeks of paid disability leave provided to birthing parents. Upon completion of paid disability leave and/or paid parental leave, parents can also take unpaid leave and temporarily work a reduced schedule.
We also recognize the value of and strongly support regular reduced work schedules in appropriate circumstances. Our policy allows associates to work a reduced schedule for proportional compensation while remaining on partnership track and retaining benefits and bonus eligibility. Bonus hours thresholds will be adjusted and bonuses will be prorated based on an associate’s work schedule percentage.
Training and Development
Sidley has made a deep and ongoing investment in our world-class learning and development function, which plays a critical and strategic role within the firm and supports Sidley's stellar client service ethic. For the past 10 years, Sidley has been the sole law firm to be named to Chief Learning Officer magazine’s LearningElite, in recognition of the firm’s sustained commitment to training and development. Our training opportunities for experienced lawyers reflect the firm’s dedication to career-long learning.
Commitment to Diversity
Sidley has a long history of taking committed action to diversify its own ranks, to achieve an inclusive and welcoming culture, and to increase the diversity of the legal profession as a whole. Our mission is to continually attract, retain, and promote to partnership and leadership outstanding lawyers who reflect the global marketplace and communities that we serve.
Tradition of Service
Sidley lawyers recognize their responsibility to use their training, skills and experience to provide legal services to underserviced communities and to charitable, community, governmental, and educational organizations that could not otherwise afford legal representation. Sidley lawyers and staff devote more than 100,000 hours annually to serving those most in need.
